Elderly, Singles and Empty Nesters!

I am a member on the app “Nextdoor”, so I receive notifications on certain topics from certain individuals. One topic came up, which was very disturbing–> It was from an older lady, I’ll call her Ms. H. (to respect her privacy).

Ms. H. thought she was doing a solid by helping someone out that she thought was in dire need. She allowed this individual to stay in a spare bedroom of her home “without a written agreement”. This certain individual “con artist/squatter” took that and use that to her advantage, but a disadvantage for Ms. H. Not only didn’t the squatter pay rent, utilities, clean up, etc. as promised, she started stealing valuable items, breaking things, not obeying house rules, and on and on. She also decided to bring in a male companion. She barricaded the bedroom door so no one, including Ms. H. could get in or out. When the squatter(s) wanted to leave the house for any reason, her and her companion would climb in and out of the bedroom window.

Police was notified, but there was nothing they could do, it was a court situation at this point. APS (Adult Protective Services) was also notified, they helped Ms. H. get an eviction notice in place, but that did not deter the squatters from coming and going.

It’s more to the story, but my question is –> How can we stop this from happening? Things like this makes it hard to help others in need. The Elderly, Single People and Empty Nesters, might be will to help, because of kind hearts, loneliness, or something else. The reason doesn’t matter, what matter is being able to help someone in need with out being taken advantage of; something needs to change and change expeditiously!

Thank You Lord!!

Our Father, thank you for all the many blessing we enjoy that come from you. We thank you for our precious gifts of our well-being, health, jobs, family and friends, material possessions, good mental capacity, strength, and most importantly, for the security that we have when we live for you. All that we have comes from you. It is all sustained by you. You deserve all the glory and honor. Help us to remember to glorify “you” for our blessings, not to get caught up in “ourselves” or the “stuff” we have. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 4:7

For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

Laugh it off and walk away…..

Dear Lord our God, each and every day You do the amazing!  I wake up with life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness! You never find it difficult to love me regardless of what I have done. Thank you for encouraging me and showing me how to love others despite how I feel or what others may have done.  I want to share a kind word and loving attitude daily.  In the precious name of Jesus, AMEN!

Scripture: Luke 6:35
But love your enemies and be kind and do good and lend, expecting and hoping for nothing in return but considering nothing as lost and despairing of no one; and then your recompense will be great.

Blessed & Highly Favored!!

Awesome and Amazing God, when I look all around me, I realize that I am wonderfully and truly blessed. Everyday, without fail, you reign down abundant favor upon me and mine, and for this, I am grateful. Knowing you, Jesus, makes all the difference in the world.  Praise the Lord! AMEN!

Psalm 104:33-34
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath! May he be pleased by all these thoughts about him, for I rejoice in the LORD.

Thank You Lord

Thank you Lord, for always looking out for me! You guide my every step so that when I follow you, I don’t mess up! I have a long way to go, but I am depending on you to guide me, to refresh me and to change me every step along the way. AMEN!

Psalm 32:8
8 The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and
watch over you.

Holidays with the family!

I had the opportunity to spend time with my family (well a few members of my family) for Christmas. I was so excited to get out of town for a few days. Everything seemed to be going smooth, from getting to the airport in time, going through security, the plane ride and evening renting the car. I had absolutely no complaints.

Christmas eve was going great, catching up on old times, laughing, wrapping presents, cooking, etc. Christmas day was even better, as I received gifts that I was not expecting, giving gifts that I was not sure that anyone would like, eating delicious food and drinking a few tasty wines. Just enjoying family time with laughter, watching movies and more eating.

The day after Christmas was more shopping as the ladies and I were looking for sales, needless to say that we found some great buys. We couldn’t wait to get back home to have some leftovers, along with more wine and family time.

It wasn’t until that Monday when the family wanted to do some house shopping, because a storm was coming in a few days. Although another family member is usually the “taxi driver” for the house, I decided that I would take everyone to the grocery stores, it was not like I had anything else to do. That shopping outing suddenly went sour – attitudes were all over the place, everyone went their separate ways, the car ride was intense and so on and so on. There were several stores on the line up but after the second store certain people were ready to go home. So, we headed home, where the coldness in the air continued, a different scene from just a few days earlier. At that point I was so ready to go home, but my plane didn’t leave until 4ish the following day, better believe that I was at the airport, 2 – 2 1/2 hours early.

I said all that to say, I wonder if the Pandemic has a significant effect on some people attitudes! I had never heard one of my family members swearing so much, in my entire life, but during my visit I soon realized that was a major part of her vocabulary.  She’s the same person that change the atmosphere for the house shopping and in the car. Seems as I had run into a “Karen” in my own family. That’s how fast things had changed!

Wishing Everyone a Great Holiday! May your New Year be filled with Peace and Blessings!

Dear Lord, keep me connected to you, so that my life will be fruitful, reflecting that I am yours. Let your love flow through me in all my activities and relationships of each day. AMEN!

Scaling through 20/21

Twenty twenty took all of us by surprise. I was totally confused when my employer came to my desk and asked if I had Wi-Fi at home? With a puzzling look on my face, I said yes. In which she replied, okay – you’ll be in the first round to get a laptop.

I’ve never had a career where I was offered to work-from-home. So I was super excited that I didn’t have to drive into work, battling traffic, going to in-person meeting, etc.

After several months of working from home, it became apparent that work-from-home will not be as exciting as I hoped. It was too much sadness happening in the world: All the people dying from COVID-19, the George Floyd death, among others, the marches, the riot, having to use mask, food and toiletries shortages, the list goes on. On top of that, we were not able to see or hug on love ones in person. For me, that last one hit the hardest.

I’m still working from home and since it’s been almost two years since I’ve stepped foot in the office, I do not look forward to going back. Unfortunately, there is a new virus on the rise and who knows what that will encounter.
